Wellness Challenge 2022

Investing in your Wellness can seem like a no brainer, we all know what it is and the basics of how to do it, however we are all guilty of letting it fall to the bottom of our priority list at times.

The point of our team Wellness Challenge is to build positive habits and practises into our general day to day lives – really following through on making wellness a top priority, all while having some fun & healthy competition along the way. 

Wellbeing is one of the key foundations on which organisations flourish, as people are at the centre of any business. You can’t pour from an empty cup and so you have to care for yourself, to be able to care for others.

When your teams wellbeing is thriving, this in turns flows into their work ethic, meaning your business directly benefits as it increases productivity, builds high performance, team engagement and there are lower rates of burnout and turnover, increasing employee retention– to name a few.

This year we decided to change it up with how we ran our annual Wellness Challenge and split it into two parts. The first half of the challenge was focused on our physical wellness, and the second half our mental wellness.

The decision to do this was a pretty simple one - overall wellbeing requires both! The Te Whare Tapa Whā, Maori Health Model is a great example of this. The model describes health and wellbeing as a wharenui/meeting house with four walls. These walls represent taha wairua / spiritual wellbeing, taha hinengaro / mental and emotional wellbeing, taha tinana / physical wellbeing and taha whanau / family and social wellbeing. Our connection with the whenua / land forms the foundation.
When all these things are in balance, we thrive. When one or more of these is out of balance our wellbeing is impacted.

Splitting the challenge up into two parts meant that both physical and wellness activities were getting an equal amount of effort put towards them. The challenge definitely brought out our teams competitive spirit, which I’ll be honest was in high supply (People Passion are a very competitive group of ladies), but the benefits of doing the challenge as a team helped motivate, encourage and support each other along the way.

The competition was very close throughout, however special mention to Anna, Kelli & Daisy (woo that’s me) who took out podium places for the first part of the challenge and Paige, Kelli (double whammy) & Katie who were the winners for the second part. The whole team did an amazing job and the personal growth displayed really demonstrates why we do this challenge yearly.
