Time to Mix It Up - Rethinking Recruitment Campaigns

Finding the right people is getting trickier, especially when you’re after great humans, not just great CVs. If your usual approach isn’t landing the right candidates, it could be time to change things up.

Here are some tactics we’ve been using to help businesses attract the right people:

Write like you - People are drawn to ads that sound real

·       Skip the jargon and write in your brand’s tone of voice

·       Let your culture, purpose and team personality shine through

·       Use visuals or short videos to bring the role to life

Think about who you really want - If someone comes to mind, reach out

·       Shoulder tap past applicants, contacts or people you admire from afar

·       Want to keep things discreet? We can reach out on your behalf and gauge interest first

Tap into the hidden market - Headhunting is one of the most effective ways to find great people who aren’t actively looking

·       Use the back end of Seek to search for candidates who’ve recently updated their profiles, a strong sign they’re open to change – we can do this for you

·       Reach out directly via LinkedIn with a warm, personalised message

·       Ask around in your network as personal recommendations are often gold

Offer relocation support - Don’t let location be a dealbreaker

·       Offer help with moving costs, partner job support (including paying for a new CV or career coaching), or info on local schools and getting set up

·       A $5–10k investment could land you the perfect person

·       If your ideal candidate might be in Auckland (or another region), don’t shy away from advertising there. Highlight what makes your region a great place to live i.e., lifestyle, cost of living, community, or career growth. Give them a reason to consider the move

Reach out to universities - If you’re hiring grads or juniors, go straight to the source

·       Contact uni careers teams and ask them to share your role

·       Promote through student job boards, newsletters or career groups

Get social with it - Meta ads can help you reach people who aren’t actively job hunting, but might be tempted by the right role

·       Use Facebook and Instagram ads to target your ideal candidates

·       Focus on visual, human, engaging content that shows off your workplace, people and vibe

Share, share, share - Don’t just post once and hope for the best

·       Share your advert across your website, socials and newsletters

·       Encourage your team to share it with their own networks

·       Check out any industry specific or community groups where you could share the role

Get creative with how the role is shaped - Flexibility is a game changer

·       Offer job share, hybrid or fully remote options

·       Consider school friendly hours or 9 day fortnights

There’s no one size fits all but mixing a few of these tactics can boost your reach, help your role stand out, and connect you with the people who’ll help your business thrive.
