Lara and Claire recently attended the annual Master Electricians Conference in Nelson to discuss hot topics in the world of HR & Recruitment.

As the HR Partner for Master Electricians, we work closely with their members and report monthly on the support provided. Lara and Claire discussed the topics that have been popping up and we thought we would share the top takeaways points!

  1. Alway use an Application Form

This allows you to have all the information about the candidate in one place, as well as information that is not found on the CV or Cover Letter and seeks approval to contact their references.

  2. Do reference checks

As a local business it can be easy to hire someone you know through a friend or trust the candidate’s word but it is vital you carry out reference checks to confirm that their work ethic and skills are what you’ve been told!

  3. Always use an Agreement and have this signed prior to commencement

Include important clauses like the 90 day trial or probationary period, if the candidate requests these be removed understand why they would like it removed, it may be an indication of a red flag!
