Known for delivering high-quality dredging, marine piling and marine construction projects, Heron Construction prides itself on strong relationships, a supportive culture and a commitment to doing things right.
About the role
Due to continued project activity, Heron Construction is looking for a Project Engineer to join their Construction Team. This is a hands-on role working across a range of marine and civil construction projects, providing technical and onsite engineering support from project planning through to delivery. This role will primarily support projects around Auckland, although there may be opportunities for future progression within the company that may involve projects in and around New Zealand including Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Depending on your level of experience, you will work closely with Project Managers, Site Supervisors and project teams to coordinate day-to-day site activities, manage technical requirements, monitor quality and progress, and ensure projects are delivered safely and in accordance with specifications, programme and client expectations.
For a more experienced Project Engineer, the role will also provide the opportunity to take greater ownership of project planning, methodologies, temporary works, budgets, resources and technical delivery.
Day to day, you will:
Support the planning, coordination and delivery of marine construction projects
Work with Project Managers and Site Supervisors to plan, schedule and monitor daily site activities
Interpret engineering drawings, designs, specifications and contractual requirements
Develop and support construction methodologies and technical solutions
Coordinate and manage technical requirements throughout project delivery
Assist with project programmes, schedules, resources and budgets
Support the identification, planning and implementation of temporary works
Procure and monitor materials and services in line with project requirements
Prepare daily, periodic and project progress reports
Monitor project deliverables, milestones and resource utilisation
Support the development and implementation of project HSEQ documentation
Monitor compliance with relevant codes, specifications, QA/QC requirements and performance standards
Carry out quality assurance and quality control activities across project works
Review engineering deliverables and identify or implement corrective actions where required
Work closely with clients, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders
Provide technical support to project teams and contribute to resolving onsite issues
Monitor project progress and assist with identifying solutions where programme, quality or technical issues arise
What we’re looking for
We are open to hearing from engineers at different stages of their careers, from a Site Engineer looking to build their project experience through to an experienced Project Engineer ready to take greater ownership of project delivery.
You will bring:
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
Practical understanding of construction procedures and how works are planned and delivered onsite
The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, designs and technical documentation
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site teams, clients and other stakeholders
Good attention to detail, time management and organisational skills
A positive, solutions-focused attitude
The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively as part of a project team
Availability to work away from Auckland base to deliver projects throughout NZ
For candidates at Project Engineer level, previous experience managing technical project requirements, construction methodologies, temporary works, project resources and engineering teams will be highly regarded. Experience in marine construction, piling, dredging, port or marina infrastructure, barge operations or wider civil construction would be advantageous; however, candidates with strong transferable civil or construction experience and an interest in developing within the marine environment are also encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment medical and drug test prior to commencing employment.
