About the role: Come as you! | Nau mai

This relationship led role plays a key part in our granting operations, with a strong focus on engaging with Māori communities, iwi and hapū. You will assess funding applications, build trusted relationships, provide early guidance to applicants, and support clear, accessible accountability and reporting. You will be active in the community, meeting organisations kanohi ki te kanohi, facilitating workshops and making the funding process feel transparent and achievable.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing warm, professional support to applicants, with a strong focus on Māori and Iwi engagement.

  • Researching, assessing and preparing clear recommendations for grant applications aligned with Toi Foundation's Strategic Framework.

  • Managing grant documentation, database accuracy, pledged funding conditions and accountability reporting.

  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with community groups, including those new or returning to the Foundation.

  • Leading practical workshops and community visits to support organisations with applications, Fluxx use and reporting requirements.

  • Contributing to organisational reporting, planning, policy development and cross-team collaboration.

This part-time role (0.5 FTE) with room for the position to grow over time.

About You

You bring sound judgement, a calm presence and a respectful approach to relationship building. You value community, enjoy working alongside diverse groups, and are confident engaging with Māori organisations, iwi, hapū, whānau and marae.

The ideal Grants Assessor:

  • Knowledge of Māori tikanga and confidence working in ways that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • It is desirable, though not essential, that you are confident in both oral and written te reo Māori.

  • Experience working with community groups, including Māori organisations.

  • Strength in building and maintaining trusted, effective relationships.

  • Good analytical capability across projects, budgets, funding and reporting.

  • Confident IT capability across Outlook, Word, Excel and database or online systems.

  • Proven reporting and communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Ability to stay organised, adapt quickly and manage competing priorities.

  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support the wider team.

  • A full, clean driver licence.

  • An interest in our kaupapa and a genuine connection to the Taranaki community.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification is beneficial but not essential.
