The Opportunity:
This isn’t just a ‘tick-the-box’ quality role. As Quality Control Inspector, you’ll be a key player in raising the bar; ensuring every product meets the highest standards by conducting thorough inspections, identifying issues, and supporting process improvements. Metal Skills are after someone who enjoys problem-solving, has an eye for detail, and wants to contribute to a business that values quality as much as you do.
Your key tasks will include:
Inspecting manufactured products using calipers, tape measures, angle protractors, jigs, and gauges
Conducting tests to detect defects or deviations from specifications
Accurately recording measurements, test data, and quality reports
Clearly reporting and documenting any defects to the relevant teams
Collaborating with production and estimating teams to resolve quality issues
Ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications
Analysing inspection data to identify trends and suggest improvements
Supporting health and safety efforts by maintaining a safe and compliant workspace
Flexibility is key: This role includes some shift crossover to cover training and inspections, but hours can be negotiated with the right person. Typical shifts are:
Day: 5:00am – 3:30pm
Night: 3:30pm – 1:30am
(Monday to Thursday – enjoy your long weekends)
About You:
You’ve worked in a similar role before, ideally in manufacturing —and you’re ready for more ownership and more chances to grow.
You’ll have:
Excellent communication – both written and verbal
Familiarity with quality control tools and inspection techniques
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication skills for reporting and teamwork
NCEA Level 2 and /or 3 or equivalent
Experience in manufacturing or quality control (desired)
