About Us:

Ground Consulting is a well-established engineering consultancy with a strong presence across Auckland and the surrounding districts. We work closely with clients, consultants and communities to deliver practical, long-term solutions.

Over the past two decades, our geotechnical team has collaborated with surveyors, developers, architects, and structural and civil engineers to provide site investigations and reporting for both resource and building consents.

Our project portfolio ranges from individual residential sites through to large-scale subdivisions, industrial developments, and business parks. As our workload continues to expand, we are looking to bring talented professionals into our team.

About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated Engineering Geologist to contribute to a diverse range of projects while continuing to build expertise in geotechnical problem-solving. This role can be based in any of our office locations and offers excellent opportunities for career progression while working on meaningful and varied projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, carry out, and manage geotechnical site investigations across projects such as slope stability, wastewater and stormwater assessments, and foundation design.

  • Apply your knowledge of geotechnical modelling software, including Slide2, CPET-IT, Settle3D and other Rocscience packages.

  • Provide geotechnical analysis and assessment for building and land developments concerning slope stability, foundation design conditions, liquefaction, and settlement.

  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-structured technical reports.

  • Support and collaborate with senior engineers or the team leader on project delivery and responsibilities.

  • Take initiative in problem-solving, including interpreting investigation results and identifying practical, effective solutions.

  • Contribute to the mentoring and development of junior team members, supporting their technical growth.

  • Play a role in project planning, including input into programmes and project delivery.

  • Help ensure projects are delivered to a high standard, meeting expectations for quality, timeliness and client satisfaction.

About you:

  • A degree in Engineering or Geology with a focus on geotechnical engineering.

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in geotechnical investigations, assessments, and reporting, ideally within a consultancy environment.

  • Prior experience with on-site wastewater and stormwater design is preferred but not essential.

  • Progress toward and the ambition to gain Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineering New Zealand.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent organisational ability.

  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work independently.

  • A collaborative and proactive approach to teamwork.

  • Must hold full New Zealand Citizenship or be a Permanent Resident.
